Palampur, January 13
Palampur MLA Ashish Butail today demanded a high-level probe into the recently repaired and carpeted roads in Palampur and its satellite areas, which were washed away after the first showers of winter last week.
Butail said the state government should hand over the probe to the State Vigilance Department so that culprits could be penalised. He said the hard-earned money of the tax payers had gone down the drains because of the carelessness of the Public Works Department (PWD).
Talking to mediapersons here, Butail said it was a matter of serious concern that the roads repaired and re-carpeted by the state PWD had developed deep potholes as it raised a question over the quality of material used by the department.
Butail said Bindravan-Sidhpur, Palampur-Chowki and internal roads in Aima ward number 2 were re-carpeted by the PWD in December last year, but developed big potholes immediately after the first showers of winter.
He alleged that it seemed that neither the work was supervised properly nor the quality of material used for carpeting the road inspected, adding that in the last session of state Assembly, he had raised this issue and highlighted the illegal acts rampant in the Palampur division of the PWD, but no action was taken.
