In a bid to ensure planned development of rural areas lying in the vicinity of Baddi civic body, a proposal to include six revenue villages (RVs) in its boundary has been mooted by the local administration.

These areas were exhibiting speedier development due to industrialization. This has also necessitated the need to ensure planned infrastructure development of these areas.

As per the proposal, the proposed areas include partial areas of five revenue villages of Shitalpur, Suraj Majra Labana, Juddi Kalan, Haripur Sandholi and Dharampur and Bhatoli Kalan and complete area of Juddi Khurd RV.

As per the proposal worked out by the civic body officials, addition of new areas would help generate income of Rs 16.5 lakh while the anticipated annual expenditure would for providing civic amenities would be Rs 12.5 lakh.

Though the proposal was submitted in February the state government was yet to take further action in the matter.

Though enhancing the limits of the civic body would help in providing facilities to the rural areas, it could also result in protest from the rural populace as taxes would be imposed on them. Weather the state government would take this step in the election year was also a key question as it could annoy a section of the rural voters.

The proposal, prepared by the officials of the Baddi civic body, was recommended by the Deputy Commissioner Solan and sent to the state government.

Director Urban Development Manmohan Sharma said proposals to enhance the boundaries of various civic bodies, including Baddi, were received and they have been forwarded to the state government for further action.

Earlier, a move to convert the municipal committees (MCs) of Baddi and Nalagarh and 24 panchayats lying in its precincts into a corporation was also mooted in 2020.

The idea stemmed from a demand raised by the Baddi Barotiwala Nalagarh Industries Association while submitting suggestions for the annual budget in December 2019. The move, however, failed to materialize following opposition from the residents.
