Shimla, June 14
The Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) today launched a #selfiewithschool campaign to highlight the condition of government schools in the state. Under the campaign, AAP is urging people to visit a nearby government school and click a selfie or make a small video about it and post it on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram and share it with AAP on Whatsapp number 9805360763.
“We are urging students, parents and teachers to be part of the campaign. It will reveal the actual condition of the schools, and people will know what the BJP and the Congress governments have done for education all these years,” said AAP state president Surjeet Thakur. “The quality of education will decide the future of our children. Through this campaign, we want people to take a good look at the schools and then decide which party is good for the future of their children,” he added.
He said that they wanted education to be the main issue in the upcoming Assembly elections. “The BJP and the Congress raise flimsy issues to distract people at the time of elections. We want people to vote on issues like education and health,” he added.
Meanwhile, Director, Higher Education, Amarjeet Sharma claimed that Himachal was on a par, if not ahead, of Kerala in education. “Besides, it’s not fair to compare schools of Delhi with schools in the entire state. If comparison has to made, Delhi schools should be compared with our schools in Shimla,” he said.
He said that unlike Delhi, Himachal is a diverse state in terms of topography, with different areas presenting different set of problems. “Despite these challenges, we have done a good job. There are of course many problems, but they are being dealt with,” he added.
